"Revealing the glory of God through excellence in the arts." The Company's History: Hosanna Sacred Arts Dance Company of Birmingham, Alabama is a national touring company of professional Christian dance artists who offer a unique worship concert experience "Soli Deo Gloria", all to the glory of God. Hosanna has been comprised of as many as eleven dancers of professional and pre-professional performing status. Dancers featured in concert have been performing members of the Boston Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Nashville Ballet, Ballet Idaho, Indianapolis Ballet Theatre, Alabama Ballet, Arizona Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, and Ballet Magnificat. Founded in 1981 in Indianapolis as a not-for-profit arts organization by artistic director and choreographer Kenneth Tolle and his wife Susan Tolle, Hosanna is dedicated to "revealing the glory of God through excellence in the arts." The beauty and splendor of an "old world" tradition is infused with the "pioneering spirit" of faith and innovation, in offering the best of classical and contemporary dance. Hosanna's concerts serve as a beautiful and inspiring means of outreach into the community. HSA concerts are stirring and uplifting; a memorable evening for the entire family. Some of the company's most memorable dance concerts include a Nashville presentation of the musical oratorio "Saviour", featuring contemporary Christian performing artists Steve Green and Larnelle Harris, as well as the ministry's two years of touring in concert with vocalist and friend Marty McCall of First Call. To this day HSA continues to thank the Lord for having been given, at its inception, the blessing of touring and worshipping through the arts for three years with vocalist and musician John Michael Talbot. HSA's 1999-2000 season began with the company's move to its current home base of Birmingham, AL. Company director Kenn Tolle serves on the Briarwood Ballet's faculty as instructor and choreographer. The school of 540 dance students and its performing company Ballet Exaltation, were founded in Christ's love by directors Barbara Barker and Kathy Nolen at the Briarwood Presbyterian Church. It is a privilege, blessing, and joy to work with these leaders in the field of dance education. Training, nurturing, and raising up the next generation of gifted young dance artists who love Jesus, and glorify Him with their God given talents has always been at the very heart of Hosanna. "Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, And the young men and the old together, For I will turn their mourning into joy, And will comfort them, and give joy for their sorrow." (Jer 31:13) Thank you Father for blessing us with the joy of bearing witness to the revelation of Your Word made flesh in our lives!
