The Fire – The family’s dog woke them at 4:00 a.m. barking. Moments later they heard pounding on the front door and a neighbor yelling to get out. By the time they reached the door, the fire was moving so quickly it was impossible to escape by either the front or balcony doors. Their only recourse was to jump from a second story window. Firefighters were still on the scene at 5:30 p.m. putting out hot spots from the blaze. Residents from the other seven apartments also escaped, a few with injuries
Sue’s Injuries – She has compression fractures of the L1 and L4 vertebrae and her right calf was torn. No surgery was required. She is in a back brace for the duration of recovery, but is able to walk.

Clothes – Please see the message from the Tolles for sizes for each family member.
Furniture and Household Items – They have been given lots of furniture that fits nicely into the new house. They have also received a good number of kitchen supplies. E-mail Susan for current specific needs.
Gift Cards - Gift cards to Target, Wal-Mart, Publix, Whole Foods, or major gas cards can all be used here in the Birmingham area. Some banks also offer VISA gift cards that can be used anywhere like a pre-paid credit card.
